Sure, the European influences here are mainly French and Spanish. But as we walked through the narrow, streets and looked up at the ornate, mostly brick buildings, I kept being reminded of Venice, Italy. We even had that same wonderful, recurring experience of turning off a busy avenue jammed with rowdy tourists, and suddenly finding yourself blessedly alone on lovely, quiet backstreet.
