On our way back to central Rome, we stopped at this massive circular structure by the Tiber River. Originally built as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian, it was later appropriated by the church as kind of a papal panic room. More recently, it was appropriated again by Dan Brown as a setting for the ridiculous denouement of “Angels & Demons.”
